Daphne Parker Powell & MorganEve Swain w/ special guest the Ben Shaw Band Daphne Parker Powell For her sixth album, The Starter Wife (Pleasure Loves Company), singer-songwriter Daphne Parker Powell (fka Daphne Lee Martin) swan dives into a maelstrom of divorce and rises from the wreckage weary, wiser, and ready to take herself a whole lot less seriously. This is cinema verite in song, boldly exploring the disposability of forever after. The Starter Wife’s intimate and elegant production aesthetic recalls Joni Mitchell’s early-to-mid 1970s album streak. No Depression described Daphne as “the voice of futuristic folk-rock/alternative-roots music... exploring the outer reaches of nostalgic melody... ” Her singular Americana mélange includes a broad array of contemporary and classic inspirations that spans folk, country, vocal jazz, indie rock, hip-hop, and cinematic pop. Her words are pulled from an expansive well of literature and lyrical influences, from laissez-faire poets, satirists, and the Beats, to Feminists, modern philosophers and the sage guidance of her friends who have been through the same anguish and risen to meet it. MorganEve Swain How MorganEve Swain Became The Huntress and Holder of Hands Sisters of the Moon, November 15th 2015 by Brooke Hollis On November 7th, 2015 MorganEve Swain released a three track EP, The Water Street Demos, as The Huntress and Holder of Hands on Bandcamp. Recording all of the parts herself, she delivered a testimony to her strength as a solo artist and a consummation of her instrumental talents. Though the gentle, fullness of her voice is the most powerful tool at her disposal, she also made exemplary use of the bass, cello, violin, and viola. This included a moving instrumental,“Etude”; a practice in wistful timing that leaves you feeling as though you are close to something, though you are not sure what, and before you can find it, it’s gone. She had already put out the stirring “Call to Arms” demo in July of 2014. Swain, ever the enchantress, applied layers of her rich, mesmerizing voice to a rousing bass line and lightly chirping birds. Her steady drumming gives you something to hold onto as you spiral into bouts of fierce bowing that impact upon you the urgency of the battle cry. And while all can find themselves drawing from her lyrics, those who know the story of MorganEve Swain attach to the ode an overwhelmingly intimate portraiture of the songstress herself.

Ben Shaw Band Ben Shaw loves to make music. Not only is he a respected jazz saxophonist and 21st century classical composer but over the last few years he has worked to become one of Rhode Island’s premier singers and songwriters. As a singer/songwriter, Shaw digs into the uniqueness of American music. Having spent time studying and performing a range of music has given Shaw access to wide array of textures and styles, but with a sound that remains firmly planted in the tradition. With the craft of a honed musician, he effortlessly blends all these facets together for a rich experience where the sounds of folk ballads and second line rhythms can be heard alongside lush harmonies and contemporary styles. He has often described this approach as being “what would hear if you listened to the Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals at the same time”. This range of style and individual sound lead to him being a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition for his song “Between The Leather And Headlights” as well as receiving a nomination for Best Singer/Songwriter in Motif Magazine’s 2020 Music Awards. He has performed across the Northeast in clubs, coffee shops, bars, and art galleries as both a soloist and with his band. He has released several singles and is currently working to release a debut 7 track EP, "Seven Songs" which will be available for streaming and purchase on all platforms April 7th, 2022.
